Miriam – for security, availability, and transparency
Cashless payment is a complex process. In many cases, the IT infrastructures and technologies of numerous manufacturers are located between terminals and remote stations. For this reason, errors can occur in spite of our greatest diligence, and this can severely impair transaction times and your sales. Besides this, cashier and terminal systems are always the target of manipulation.
REA Card provides you with its "Multi-Interface Router with Integrated Manipulation Detection" (Miriam). Miriam features exactly the functions that provide the system with complete transparency, availability, and security:
- A connection between various system environments: MIRIAM becomes the central interface for all data communication and features easy administration
- Upcoming potential risks and problems are detected in advance: the automated introduction of procedures is possible
- Protection against manipulation of hard and software
Your system's transparency
MIRIAM recognises the devices at your store and enters these into the central database:
- This information can be accessed at any time (store, connection time, serial numbers, IP address, etc.)
Your hardware's security
Your cash desk is openly accessible at times, and at night and on the weekends it is unsupervised. Miriam detects manipulation at the cash and terminal systems immediately:
- Any change to the status of the device is reported to the central monitoring system
- Interruption of the cable connection is detected even when the end device is switched off (the first indicator of possible theft and manipulation attempts)
- Connection of unknown end devices triggers and immediate report to the central monitoring system
- Alarm in case the store router is opened without permission
- Disconnection of the store router from the power grid is detected by the central monitoring system and reported
Software and data transmission security
Security applications like a firewall or a virus scanner are also always a compromise in terms of your system's speed. Miriam goes one important step further:
- Scanning data streams for suspicious patterns (data streams that do not correspond with the criteria of a transaction are blocked)
- Plausibility examination for data that is sent
- Monitoring and logging for each individual transaction and every end device (PCI-compatible including date, time, and duration of the transaction)
- Support for VPN connections to protect transfer of your data. The gateway that is created already stops TCP attacks like brute force attacks, spoofing, DoS, and SYN flooding in the gateway, which keeps them from penetrating your end devices.
- Open port monitoring
Timely error detection
Miriam is able to combine different Internet connections with each other:
- Continuous monitoring of the connection being used
- In case an unstable connection is suspected: automatic activation of a fallback, .e.g. change of the data communications transmission from ISDN to GPRS und reset of the component of the system causing the problem
Transaction monitoring
Miriam knows how important the availability of remote stations is for problem-free transactions:
- Detection of classic errors such as line errors
- Discovery, reporting, and logging of delays in the processing of transactions:
Activation of corresponding reactions and effective increase of throughput times at the PoS
