Engel Apotheke Darmstadt takes new paths

The traditional pharmacy Engel Apotheke Darmstadt has been a customer of REA Card for many years. The main branch at Luisenplatz in Darmstadt will now be fitted with new terminals – combined with an innovative concept.

The business has 18 tills, which until now were not all connected to an payment terminal. REA Card had to look for a secure and reliable solution to allow all tills to accept payments by card without having to employ 18 separate payment terminals.

The solution was to use ten mobile payment terminals of the REA Xentissimo smart series. These wireless devices are able to process transactions without being connected to a till. At Engel Apotheke, two tills can now access one mobile payment terminal, and the transactions are transmitted via the pharmacy’s WLAN connection. Should the broadband connection fail, a fallback solution in the form of ISDN will ensure that everything runs smoothly.

Since many more terminals are available now, end customers now benefit from faster and more convenient purchase transactions. Since Engel Apotheke uses their existing Internet flat rate and WLAN connection, the payment transactions do not incur any additional costs.

In the future, WLAN will offer completely new cashless payment options, not just for Engel Apotheke. On the German market, the mobile REA Xentissimo smart is one of only a few devices that support this new communication channel.
