Personnel, energy and water for the St. Thomas Hospital

With the next town 30 km away, getting there represents a journey of several days for the villagers of Mvam Zamba, located in the middle of the Cameroon rain forest. Such a journey is especially difficult for the sick and ill. Opened at the beginning of 2009, the hospital ward called "St Thomas Hospital" located in the village is thus a real blessing for the inhabitants of the Mbalmayo diocese. A clinic, a pharmacy, sanitary facilities, two sick rooms and a laboratory enable the doctors to treat even seriously ill patients on-site.

The majority of patients suffer from infections such as malaria or worm conditions often caused by the catastrophic quality of the local water. Many of the patients, especially children, die from these conditions.

The charitable trust “ Förderverein St. Thomas Hospital Kamerun e. V.” provides financial and organizational support to the ward as well as providing local hands-on assistance. The work of the trust is funded exclusively by donations, and is staffed by volunteers. REA Card is impressed by this level of dedication and is happy to make a regular contribution to the trust.

In this way, we helped to ensure that the fabric of the building was finished on time. We are currently providing support for personnel, energy and water costs. The next project is a housing unit for the personnel.
