REA Card gives high priority to security: The REA Card security seal

It even happens in Germany – last year, resourceful criminals succeeded in manipulating terminals. After spying out card information and even customer PIN numbers, they used to them to commit fraud. Some of those affected suffered considerable financial loss. It is only natural that after hearing such reports, many have become suspicious of cashless payment.

We want to do something to stop this! Fortunately, terminals from REA Card were not affected. Yet it is possible that they could become an attractive target in the future. REA Card is currently expanding and our terminals are to be found at ever-more locations. It could thus be worth their while for criminals to work out how to manipulate our terminals. We have taken precautions to prevent this: you can secure your REA Card terminal against data theft with a security seal – in addition to existing security features.

Every terminal leaving our works sports such a security seal. And for those terminals already in use you can order a security seal and affix it yourself. The seals fit all current REA Card models. Thanks to the seal, you will know if anyone has tried to open your terminal – the seal will have an altered appearance in terms of structure, tears, or with an uneven texture in the tape. As soon as you notice even the smallest alteration to your security seal, contact the REA Card hotline immediately:

We support the recommendation made by the German Federal Office of Criminal Investigation, of using an additional security seal. Our security seals satisfy the highest standards and the test conditions set for security labels by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). Unfortunately, it is impossible to rule out entirely that even the most up-to-date seal can be manipulated or bypassed. We are therefore unable to accept liability for any damage occurring despite use of the seal. We strongly advise that you observe the current security recommendations made by the credit industry.
